Meta Platforms Poised to Overtake Google in Global Ad Revenue by 2026
Meta Platforms (META) is projected to surpass Google in global digital advertising revenue for the first time in 2026, according to Emarketer forecasts. Meta's net ad revenue is expected to reach $243.46 billion, edging out Google's $239.54 billion. This shift reflects Meta's accelerating growth rate of 24.1% in 2026, up from 22.1% in 2025, while Google's growth remains stagnant at 11.9%.
The divergence stems from Meta's successful deployment of AI tools and new ad products like Reels, Threads ads, and WhatsApp monetization. These innovations are driving engagement and advertiser demand, particularly among younger demographics. Meanwhile, the digital ad market continues consolidating, with Meta, Google, and Amazon projected to control 62.3% of global spending by 2026.
Market analysts highlight Meta's strategic advantage in social commerce integration and short-form video advertising. 'They've turned Reels from a TikTok defense mechanism into a profit center,' noted Bernstein's Mark Shmulik. The platform's AI-powered recommendation algorithms now deliver 30% longer watch times, creating premium inventory for performance advertisers.
